Julia Carrillo (Mexico, 1987)

Julia Carrillo is a multidisciplinary artist with extensive scientific training. Her projects arise from questions about our perception of the world and the tools we have built to observe, understand, investigate and represent it. Through the analysis and construction of artifacts that extend our capabilities, Carrillo has created a body of work that addresses sculpture, installation, architecture, photography and performance.

She studied Mathematics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a Master's Degree in Visual Arts at the Academia de San Carlos and studied at the New York School of Visual Arts (SVA). She is a member of the National System of Art Creators (SNCA-FONCA). She has been a beneficiary of the Art, Science and Technologies Program (FONCA/UNAM), of the Support Program for Production and Research in Art and Media (PAPIAM) of the National Center for the Arts (CNA) and on two occasions of the Young Creators program of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). She is currently carrying out projects in collaboration with the Center for Complexity Sciences, Institute of Mathematics and Institute of Astronomy of UNAM.

She has participated in several artistic residencies including: Art Omi in New York; MMCA International Artist Fellowship Program of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea; A.C. Art Laboratory from the Tecnológico de Monterrey; Flux Factory in New York. Individual and collective samples of her work have been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Italy, Spain, Germany, England and Korea. Her work is part of important collections such as that of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Monterrey (MARCO); Open Art Foundation: Art OMI; FEMSA Collection and Universum Science Museum, UNAM.
